Hankelow Amenities Group - Annual Report - June 2009 to June 2010

Annual report from Val Morrey - Chair of the Group

30th June 2010

Last year was as busy as ever for the Amenities Group.

Our Summer Fete last year was on June 14th and was a great success. The community came together to produce a day enjoyed by all.

We were asked to provide refreshments at the Hankelow assembly point for the vehicles taking part in the Audlem Festival of Transport in July. It was hard work and the weather was miserable but after expenses we made £400 so it was certainly worth the effort.

We were able to fund a Village Afternoon Trip to Wollerton Hall Gardens on Sunday September 13th. 42 people of all ages had a lovely afternoon.

The Autumn Supper was held at the Syhlet Lodge on October 14th and was a great success. 70 people attended.

Carols on the Green is always a popular event. About 50 people attended on December 14th. £103 was collected and donated to The Wingate Centre. After the event, everyone present was invited to a private house in the village (the White Lion being closed) where mulled wine and mince pies were served.

On Sunday May 16th this year we had a History Walk around the village and finished at the Chapel where refreshments were provided. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and it was especially interesting to those who had recently moved into the village. The photographs displayed in the Chapel were of particular interest.

To help fund this year's fete we had a cake stall and Football game at the Audlem Carnival on May 31st. We distributed a leaflet around the village asking for donations of cakes and we were not let down. We had a great response and raised £470.

Members of the Amenities Group worked really hard to organise this year's Summer Fete which was held on Sunday June 13th. Despite the rain at the end of the afternoon we had a really lovely day. People came out early in the morning to help put up marquees and gazebos and set up tables and chairs. The Crewe West End Concert Band entertained us along with the Dig It Dog Display Team. There was more music from Musicland's young musician's and Audlem St James School's Maypole Dancers and Cheerleaders were also on the events list. There were also the usual games and stalls.

The two charities we supported this year were the RSPCA and the Macmillan Cancer Support and were pleased to be able to give £500 to each Charity. There were also donations to Hankelow Methodist Church, Friends of Audlem School Association and Musicland. People's willingness to help was a main factor in the success of the Fete.

We provided refreshments for the Audlem Festival of Transport again this year on Sunday June 20th. The weather was lovely and the village green looked beautiful. We raised £400.

Coming up is a walk to, and guided tour of, Hankelow Hall on Sunday July 18th. More events for the rest of the year will be arranged at our future meetings.
